Panchakarma
Classical 5-fold detoxification, Vamana, Virechana, Basti, Nasya, and Raktamokshana.
Comprehensive Overview of Panchakarma (पञ्चकर्म)
The Panchakarma regimen is carried out in three systematic phases:
1. Purvakarma (Preparatory): Snehana (internal and external oleation with medicated oils/ghee) and Swedana (sudation / therapeutic sweating) to mobilize toxins from peripheral tissues into the gastrointestinal tract (Kostha).
2. Pradhanakarma (The Five Main Cleansings):
• Vamana (Therapeutic emesis for Kapha elimination)
• Virechana (Therapeutic purgation for Pitta disorders)
• Basti (Medicated herbal and oil enemas for Vata normalization - considered 'Ardha Chikitsa' or half of all medicine)
• Nasya (Trans-nasal administration for supra-clavicular conditions)
• Raktamokshana (Bloodletting via Jalauka / leeches or Siravedha for toxic blood diseases)
3. Paschatkarma (Post-purification Care): Samsarjana Krama (graduated dietary restoration to rekindle digestion) and rejuvenating Rasayana therapies.
Panchakarma is not merely symptomatic relief but cellular reprogramming that reverses chronic morbidities, restores neuro-endocrine balance, and halts premature biological aging.
